MiLLYJaWN Studio LLC is a multimedia company aspiring to be an asset to Philadelphia and the Black Community. With that mission in mind, this past Sunday we partnered up with a local North Philly church called New Generation Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ. Their youth had a desire to pass out blankets to some of the homeless people who reside in Center City, Philadelphia. With winter crawling in and thanksgiving coming up, it was laid on their hearts to go out and do something kind for people who will be braving the cold streets. The church worked with us to give out custom bags that held one blanket, a pair of sockets, and the staple scripture of salvation, John 3:16. The church and our team went downtown around 11:15 AM EST, and campused the area between Dilworth Park, Love Park and the Swann Memorial Fountain.
We gave away a total of 100 bags, each printed and pressed with love. We didn’t have the funding to gift every homeless person residing downtown but the experience was inspirational. We were able to have conversations with people who live on the streets downtown and talk to them about their lives and their struggle. It was a humbling thing to talk with someone living less fortunate than ourselves. There are roughly 5,700 homeless people in Philadelphia and roughly 2000 of them reside downtown in and near center city. Although the city has the “lowest number of street homeless per capita of any of the largest cities in the US” there’s still a lot of work to be done. Needless to say, this is the first of many charitable outreach projects we’ll be working on as we all push to better ourselves and our city.
Special Thanks to Everyone who Assisted with Making this a Successful Collaboration!
